Handling Stress at Work

The thing with stress is, you wouldn’t know you have it until it is too much! Datelines, meetings, clients requirements, crashed documents and competition in the workplace is just some mere examples of what you might be going through right now. How to juggle with all these?

Stop whatever you’re doing right now and take a break.

It could be a 5-minute stretch or a 5-day vacation. Point is, get off your office chair. Having plenty to do and going away is probably the last thing you would opt for but would you rather suffer stroke for the rest of your life? If you have a solution at hand and the task could be done in 2 hours, do hustle. If not, if you’re ever perplexed, a change of situation is going to help you to think straight.

Breaks will actually increase your productivity and your creativity. Balanced work life is substantial to measure progress and improvement made in the project that you’re working on.

Why not take some good breaks? Take a stroll around lunch hours, include some freestyle swimming time after work, power nap and energize yourself! Annually, treat yourself to a well  deserved Phuket or Paris adventure! Why? You earned it.

Rule number two: Get Organize!

Imagine 14 lanes merging uncontrollably into 1 lane, what happens next? Chaos! That’s exactly how our brain works as well. The end result of too much mayhem leads to a pile of unnecessary mess, in this case, brain malfunction. A little help from Mr.Sticky Note and Mrs.Pen goes a long way. Jot your thoughts down!

First, create a to-do-list. This list is going to make you highlight your key priorities. Narrowing down your most important thing will subconsciously avert your mind to create action plans, therefore an increase in active positive movements and a decrease in the release of cortisol, which is our primary stress hormones.

As a new start of the year, why not challenge yourself to update your 2019 yearly planner and your goal journal as much as you could. Don’t have one yet? Go and get yours! A classic handmade personalized notebook will do the same trick. Tracking down your progress is crucial for your hectic lifestyle. Use electric blue, yellow and purple notes to keep your mind constantly engaged.

Be Your Very Own Doctor & Avoid Panda Eyes.

Pandas are cute, eye bags are not. Yes, I do understand, we have to physically visit our physician for our daily health check-up. Generally, though, what do doctors do? They pay detailed attention to our deficiency and top it up with what we need. So the question is, “why can’t we try to prevent further damage to ourselves”? A wide range of apps and ideas are available online under the topic of “how to (realistically) stay healthy”.

Get enough sleep. This could not be emphasized enough. Get at least 8 hours of sleep every single day. Sleep is as important as food, ironically for some, it is as important as their coffee. Your sleeping pattern is correlated to your blood pressure level. Drink plenty of water too, and do consume healthy foods. You know the drill, you are what you eat! Exercise as much as you can and flex those muscle, all these little consistent steps releases endorphins which chases away cortisol!

Have a Proper Outlook & Start Your Day Right!

What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you wake up? If you don’t have a positive outlook on life in general, you will tend to look at everything in an upsetting way. If you don’t love what you do, nothing is going to go right! Are you reaching for the snooze button in the morning or will you beat your alarm clock to rise and shine?

Being motivated about your day will shine through your working hours and people around you will notice it. You will be happier to receive a more challenging or impossible workload because as for yourself, you will somehow create a glass bottle from the sand that was given to you.

An optimist believes that everything has a solution. This is a natural trigger to reduce stress because they realize that the issues they are facing are only temporary. Do you believe that when one door closes, the other one opens up? If you failed to secure this client, maybe you can reach out to them another time or secure a better sponsorship on the next deal.

You can’t run away from stress, but you can learn to handle it better. A little stress is actually good, it keeps us on our toes! Take practical steps and don’t overpromise yourself.
